"They are running in circles": Ihnat explains why air alert due to Shahed attacks has become longer

Shahed attacks on Ukraine

Usually, terrorists start launching Shaheds in the evening. The air raids can be quite long, as due to their considerable range, drones can fly over the territory several times instead of directly attacking the target.

This was stated by the Air Force spokesman Yuriy Ihnat on the air of the United News telethon. According to the Air Force representative, launches usually begin in the evening and last until late at night, until the Ukrainian air force eliminates the last Shahed.

"Shaheds are usually launched in waves, they fly around, maneuver. They have a long range. These are internal combustion engines. The route that the operators paved for them at the launch site remains in their 'memory'. In this way, they make circles, they can circle around the region, not only in a straight line, and then enter the target," said Ihnat.

The spokesman noted that the average duration of the occupants' attacks has not changed significantly recently.

"Shakheds have always been flying for a long time. Earlier they were launched from Kherson region, the first launches when the Defense Forces had not yet driven the enemy to the left bank of the Dnipro. After that, they moved to Crimea. The flight duration is getting longer, the speed of the Shahed is 150 km/h on average, and that's why it happens," Ihnat explained.

As reported by OBOZ.UA, on the night of December 16, Russian troops carried out the sixth air attack on Kyiv since the beginning of December. The enemy forces attacked the capital with the help of Iranian kamikaze drones, which were launched in groups from different directions. All of these drones were destroyed.

As a reminder, Russian troops began launching kamikaze drones at Ukraine on December 15 in the evening. At around 9:30 p.m., an air raid alert began to spread across Ukraine. In addition to Kyiv, the movement of the "Shaheds" was recorded, in particular, in the direction of Dnipropetrovs'k, Sumy, Poltava, and Khmelnytsky regions.
