"We are talking to the Ukrainians": Washington says whether the operation in Kursk region was coordinated with Kyiv

The US commented on the events in the Kursk region

The United States of America commented on the fighting in the Kursk region of the Russian Federation and assured that Ukraine had not notified them in advance of the operation. The U.S. State Department and the White House made the statements.

For example, State Department spokesman Matthew Miller said that Ukraine had not discussed the operation in Kursk Oblast with the United States before it began. Now Kyiv and Washington are already talking about it.

"We are talking to the Ukrainians about this particular operation. I will give them the opportunity to talk about what is there: what operations [they] are conducting and what their goals are," Miller said.

He added that it would be right for Kyiv to comment publicly on this, not the United States.

"It's not surprising that the Ukrainians didn't let us know if they had a precise tactic before they implemented it. This is a war they are waging. We provide them with equipment and advice, but when it comes to day-to-day tactics, sometimes we communicate with them, sometimes we don't. And it is appropriate that they make these decisions themselves," the spokesman emphasized.

The State Department spokesman added that Ukraine's decisions on its military operations did not change US policy on strikes with US weapons on Russian territory.

White House spokeswoman Karin Jean-Pierre also confirmed that the United States did not know about the operation in the Kursk region of Russia in advance. According to her, the administration will contact Ukraine to find out the details and goals of the operation.

Jean-Pierre emphasized that Ukraine has the right to defend itself against Russian aggression.

"We have to remember that there are Russian troops in this region (Kursk region - Ed.). They are there, attacking Ukraine from this region. We must not forget this," she said.

The White House spokeswoman assured that the United States will continue to support Kyiv, but also clarified that the US policy on the use of American weapons by Ukraine remains unchanged.

As OBOZ.UA previously reported, the United States and the European Union have responded to the situation in the Kursk region. In their opinion, Ukraine has the legal right to act within its capabilities in the situation.
