US to provide additional $2 billion in aid to Ukraine, - Blinken

U.S. Secretary of State Anthony Blinken

The United States is providing Ukraine with additional military assistance worth two billion dollars. Some of this aid has already arrived in Ukraine, while others are on the way.

This was stated by U.S. Secretary of State Anthony Blinken at a briefing at the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry. Among the priorities, he named not only ammunition, armored vehicles and missiles, but also the defense of Ukraine from Russian air attacks.

"We have additional help on the way. In fact, some aid has already arrived. But today I want to add to that by announcing that we will provide an additional two billion dollars in financial and military assistance to Ukraine," Blinken said.

According to the official, this assistance will include a first-of-its-kind fund for defense companies. It has three areas: providing weapons now, investing in the Ukrainian defense industry, and purchasing weapons for Ukraine and outside the United States.

Blinken added that the United States is currently focused on the Kharkiv region, where the Russians have launched an offensive. To help Ukrainian soldiers, Washington is doing everything possible to ensure that the pledged aid arrives on the battlefield as soon as possible.

"We are in a hurry with ammunition, armored vehicles, missiles, air defense systems. We are trying to speed up their delivery to the front to protect soldiers and civilians. Air defense systems are, of course, a top priority. We are focused in our conversations on the details of what we are doing to find more air defense systems and deliver them to Ukraine. I can tell you that this is an urgent and priority issue for us," the US Secretary of State said.

Earlier, Bloomberg shared insights that the United States is considering providing Ukraine with an additional battery of Patriot air defense systems.

Meanwhile, during a meeting with Blinken in Kyiv on May 14, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky emphasized that Ukraine needs more air defense systems to protect its cities. In particular, he noted that two Patriot air defense systems are currently needed to protect the Kharkiv region.
