Ukraine's defenders in Avdiivka need to hold out just a little longer: colonel voiced a forecast

Despite the intensification of the Russian occupation army in the area of Avdiivka, the chances of capturing the city are slim. Ukraine's defenders need to hold out for only a few weeks, and then the situation will change.

Such a forecast was made in an exclusive interview with OBOZ.UA by pilot-instructor, colonel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in reserve, military expert Roman Svitan. "It's really difficult there, but the Russians have little chance of accomplishing this task," he said.

The expert reminded that autumn rains will start in a few weeks, which will impede the advance of heavy equipment of the occupation forces. "Donbas is up to a meter of black soil. When wet, it is a good "concrete" that sucks in almost any equipment," noted Svitan.

Thus, "there are only a few weeks left before serious rains begin, which will also cancel the ability of the Russians to move through Donbas. We need to hold out for a few weeks, and I think this task can be accomplished," he said.

In this context, the colonel added that samples of Western equipment have already appeared in the area of Kupyansk and Avdiivka. "There is already Bradley and Leopard there. Other serious equipment will also arrive there," he predicted.

"It was decided to hold these two regions. I think we will definitely hold out until the rains come, and then the weather will help us," the expert concluded.

As OBOZ.UA wrote, the latest report of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine says that on October 25, the Ukrainian Defense Forces repelled 12 attacks on Avdiivka and 11 in the Kupyansk sector. A total of 66 combat engagements took place over the day.
