Ukraine in talks with EU on the return of draft evaders - Klymenko

Ihor Klymenko commented on the possible return of draft evaders from abroad

Ukraine is negotiating with the European Union to return men who left our country illegally to avoid mobilization. Currently, European countries are not planning to introduce such measures.

Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko commented on the issue in an interview with Radio Liberty. He said that every day law enforcement officers detain dozens of people who intend to cross the border illegally, but not all of them are draft vaders.

The journalist asked about a specific figure since the beginning of the full-scale war. The minister replied that such statistics are available, but they are closed and do not reflect the real situation.

At the same time, Klymenko said that the journalist's assumption about "tens of thousands" of men was "an overstated figure."

"We are consulting with our colleagues from the European Union. Of course, each EU country acts according to the laws and rules of the European Commission. Therefore, these negotiations on the possible return of our citizens if they crossed the border illegally will continue," the Interior Minister said.

As reported earlier, the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine explained where to which countries most draft evaders often try to escape. With forged documents - to Poland; if we talk about illegal border crossing outside checkpoints - most often to Romania and Moldova.
