"They need it now": White House urges Congress to approve aid to Ukraine amid new Russian attacks
The White House called on the U.S. House of Representatives to finally pass a bipartisan supplemental national security bill. This will provide Ukraine with more weapons, primarily air defense systems.
The new appeals to Congress were made against the backdrop of intensifying Russian terror against the Ukrainian people. This was stated by Adrienne Watson, a spokeswoman for the US National Security Council.
According to her, the Russian terrorist state has launched one of the largest air attacks on Ukraine's energy system since the beginning of the war, depriving many people across the country of heat, water and electricity. The U.S. also emphasized that these bombings are part of a series of Russian attacks on Ukraine's most important infrastructure.
The White House emphasized that in this way, Kremlin dictator Vladimir Putin is trying to break the spirit of the Ukrainian people and plunge them into darkness.
"To help Ukraine defend itself against these attacks, we need the House of Representatives to pass a bipartisan supplemental national security bill so we can send Ukraine more air defense equipment. They need it now and we cannot afford any further delays," Watson said in a statement.
As a reminder, the U.S. Government Accountability Office has audited the financial and military assistance provided to Ukraine. After the work done, the agency recommended that the US government introduce a process to track funding more effectively.
Earlier, Volodymyr Zelenskyy suggested that US President Joe Biden is in no hurry to provide weapons to Ukraine because he is afraid of a Russian nuclear strike.
