"They have been preparing for war for 50 years": expert explains how cooperation between Ukraine and South Korea can change the situation on the battlefield

South Korea's support will change the situation on the battlefield

If Seoul realizes its intentions to send South Korean specialists to Ukraine and provide weapons, it can really change the situation on the battlefield. South Korea is a country that has been preparing for war for 50 years, it has a large modern army and a huge arsenal of the latest weapons.

This was stated by Oleksandr Leonov, Executive Director of the Penta Center for Applied Political Studies, in an exclusive interview with OBOZ.UA. He noted that Russian dictator Putin did not take into account Seoul's possible response to the escalation by inviting the DPRK to war.

"As they say, as of now, South Korea is identical to what Russia has left, but more modern. They have their own military-industrial complex that produces weapons, and, for example, Poland buys Krab, which are self-propelled howitzers, and South Korean tanks, and they have their own anti-aircraft missile system. So if they decide to supply Ukraine with weapons, it will be very good for us, and it can really change the situation. In addition, there is now information that there are a number of retired military personnel in South Korea who are ready to go to Ukraine, and it would be very good if they go with the equipment and train Ukrainians to use it right here. Therefore, I think this is the moment that Putin did not miscalculate when he tried to start an escalation by inviting North Korea to war," the expert said.

Oleksandr Leonov also explained how support from South Korea can strengthen our military at the front and what weapons from this country can help us. According to him, these are tanks, howitzers, and above all, shells, of which South Korea has huge reserves.

"They can provide tanks, they can provide self-propelled howitzers, they can strengthen our air defense. The main thing is that they can very quickly change the balance of shells and mines between Ukraine and Russia on the battlefield because they have warehouses with a lot of stocks. If our allies help them with the logistics, I think the flow can be quite large. Therefore, South Korea's support is the option when the situation on the battlefield can change very quickly," the expert emphasized.

As a reminder, this week a South Korean delegation will visit Ukraine to meet with representatives of the intelligence and defense ministries to exchange data from the battlefield and discuss cooperation.

As reported by OBOZ.UA:

South Korean President Yoon Suk-Yeol said that his country "will not sit idly by" and will take steps in response to the DPRK's sending of troops to Russia. According to him, Seoul will take the necessary measures depending on the scale of military cooperation between Pyongyang and Moscow. In particular, it may reconsider its position on providing weapons to Ukraine.

Earlier, Newsweek wrote that the South Korean government is considering sending its personnel to Ukraine, including intelligence officers and experts on the DPRK.
