"There can be no just peace without US support": Zelenskyy urges Washington to continue pressure on Moscow
After speaking with lawmakers of both parties, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with U.S. President and Vice President Joe Biden and Kamala Harris in Washington, DC. The Ukrainian leader discussed with them the promising victory plan.
There can be no just peace without the support of the United States, Zelenskyy said during his meeting with Harris. In particular, the Ukrainian president called on the United States to continue sanction pressure on Moscow.
"We must keep sanctions against Russia tough and use the proceeds of frozen Russian assets to protect Ukraine, our people, our cities, our front line from the Russian evil. And, of course, we must work hard to bring all Russian war criminals to justice," he emphasized.
"It is very important for us to be fully understood and to work in full coordination with the United States. This morning I spoke with congressmen from both houses, both parties. And I am grateful for the bipartisan support. We believe that this war can be won and that a just peace can only be closer with the United States," Zelenskyy added.
In her turn, Kamala Harris noted that this was her seventh meeting with Volodymyr Zelenskyy. She also assured him of unwavering support for Ukraine. According to her, the United States will continue to provide the security assistance necessary for Ukraine's victory.
"We must defend our democratic values and stand up to aggressors. And we must uphold the international order, rules and norms. Each of these principles is at stake in Ukraine, and that is why Ukraine's fight matters to the American people," she said.
Meanwhile, according to Voice of America journalists, Zelenskyy's stay in Washington has been extended for another day.
As reported, the victory plan that Zelenskyy brought to the United States should provide Ukraine with long-term guarantees of support from the West. The President emphasizes that the plan needs the urgent support of Joe Biden and other Western leaders so that Ukraine can start negotiations by the end of the year from a favorable position.
