There are two requirements: The media revealed under what conditions Greece will provide Ukraine with Patriot
Greece is likely to transfer the Patriot air defense system to Ukraine, provided that it receives US "guarantees" regarding the threat from Turkey and a financial compensation package. This is the latest modification of the Patriot PAC-3 anti-aircraft missile system, designed to defeat and destroy tactical ballistic missiles.
This was reported by the Greek newspaper Pronews, citing sources. The Patriot system, which is expected to be transferred to Ukraine, is likely to be one of two deployed in Athens.
The second system may also be transferred to Ukraine.
The newspaper's sources in the Greek government assure that the US has provided guarantees for the entire period of the Patriot transfer for the country's security against the threat of a Turkish attack, without explaining what kind of guarantees are offered.
Perhaps the United States will replace the SAM in case of destruction or Athens will receive compensation from the $61 billion US aid package to Ukraine, the publication suggests.
According to the sources, the transfer of Patriot to Ukraine will be similar to the delivery to Saudi Arabia, when the United States incurred significant costs for the timely activation of the SAM, i.e., for re-activation, as the air defense systems did not work or did not function properly due to lack of spare parts.
In total, Greece has six Patriot systems, one of which was transferred to Saudi Arabia.
The Patriot PAC-3 (Patriot Advanced Capability-3) is one of the latest upgrades to the well-known Patriot air defense system, designed to intercept tactical ballistic and cruise missile warheads, including those made using stealth technology.
