There are enough launchers: The Times reveals how many ATACMS missiles Ukraine has left

Currently, Ukraine has about 50 ATACMS missiles that can strike targets in Russia. These long-range missiles are scarce, highly valued around the world, and the United States exports them to many countries, including Australia, South Korea, Romania, Greece, Turkey, Poland, and Morocco.

The Times writes about this. At the same time, Ukraine has enough M142 HIMARS and M270 MLRS multiple launch rocket systems to fire ATACMS.

However, due to the limited supply of missiles, the Ukrainian military command will need to carefully select targets inside Russia for strikes.

ATACMS is manufactured by Lockheed Martin. These are long-range tactical ballistic missiles that are launched from a GPS (global positioning system) guided MLRS.

The missile's payload consists of a fragmentation warhead weighing about 227 kg, and the maximum range is 300 km.

Earlier, we wrote that there are at least 250 military and paramilitary facilities in Russia within reach of ATACMS.

These include large military bases, communications stations, logistics centers, repair shops, fuel depots, ammunition depots, and permanent headquarters, from which it would be extremely difficult or impossible to quickly relocate assets or quickly strengthen their protection.

As you know, ATACMS are designed to do just that - target enemy command centers, airfields, air defense facilities, and logistics.

ATACMS flies on a semi-ballistic trajectory. The initial acceleration is carried out on a pre-programmed rigid trajectory, and the entire subsequent flight is in a controlled mode. At the end, such missiles are accelerated, which allows them to blow up even underground bunkers.

As reported, US Assistant Secretary of State Brian Nichols confirmed that President Joe Biden had authorized Ukraine to strike Russian territory with ATACMS missiles.

Recently, Ukraine has used American long-range ATACMS missiles to hit Russian territory for the first time. The Defense Forces used these weapons to attack ammunition warehouse in the Bryansk region. A military target in the city of Karachev was successfully hit on the night of November 19.

The US media reported that Russia was able to intercept two of the eight missiles fired by Ukraine and that the strike was on an ammunition supply point.
