The scale of the AFU counteroffensive may suddenly increase: military expert names the main condition

So far, the pace and scope of the offensive is minimal, but if the Ukrainian troops break through the main line of defense, they can dramatically increase. This opinion was expressed by the coordinator of the group "Information Resistance" Kostyantin Mashovets in an interview with RBC-Ukraine.

"In three directions - in Vasilivka, Tokmak and Berdyansk - advanced units of the Armed forces of Ukraine are conducting offensive actions. The pace and scope of the offensive is still minimal. The enemy is now trying to hold the supply line and in some places the first line of defense," Mashovets said.

In some areas, he said, the first line of defense has already been passed. However, there is still the main line ahead.

"If the Ukrainian troops break through the main line of defense, then of course that the pace and scope of their offensive may increase, and sharply and "suddenly" - it is obvious. But the enemy in this sense has created in the southern operational zone echeloned and prepared defense," - noted Mashovets.

He admitted that it is still difficult to judge what quality and density of the Russian defense on Zaporizhzhya is. However, Mashevets suggested, one cannot completely rule out the possibility that the invaders have created de facto only the first line, while the rest remained on paper in reports.

However, for a successful counteroffensive, Ukrainian troops must calculate forces and plan operations based on the fact that the invaders have equipped their main line of defense with all the necessary elements, including mine and explosive barriers, fortifications, fortified positions for infantry and protected firing positions.

"In reality, they may not exist, meaning that it could, for example, be just a component of a disinformation campaign, or Russian officials could have generally plundered the resources and money allocated for its equipment. But for now, let's assume that it is quite real and is as it should be, with all the elements. When the AFU will reach the main line of defense - then its real "quality" will become clear," said the military expert.

Also, he added, the situation on the battlefield will also be affected by whether the Russian command in the southern operational zone has enough troops and operational reserves to occupy this line of defense with specific formations, if such a need arises.

Recall, according to the General Staff, the AFU are conducting offensive operations in Melitopol and Berdyansk directions and are consolidating on the achieved borders. Also the defenders are conducting counter-battery work.

It was also reported that the Defense Forces hit the occupants' manpower, equipment and warehouses. Only in the Tauride direction, where the Ukrainian counter-offensive continues, the Defense Forces destroyed two companies of Russian occupants and three ammunition depots during the day on July 15.
