The occupiers have transferred the newest large amphibious assault ship "Peter Morgunov" to Sevastopol

Russian occupiers have deployed a new large amphibious assault ship, Petr Morgunov, to the temporarily occupied Sevastopol. Satellites recorded it near the pier in Sevastopol Bay.

Before the start of Russia's full-scale invasion in February 2022, the Petr Morgunov was deployed to the Black Sea, allegedly to participate in exercises, and has been in Novorossiysk Bay ever since. This was reported by the Crimean Wind Telegram channel.

Crimean Wind's monitoring group spotted the newest Russian Ivan Gren-type warship on satellite images. They assumed that it was the Petro Morgunov, which had entered the Black Sea before Russia's full-scale invasion.

"The Sentinel 2 satellite image of January 6 near the pier in Sevastopol Bay shows, with a high probability, the Project 11711 Ivan Gren warship. At the end of January 2022, before the start of the full-scale military invasion, the Petro Morgunov warship, which belongs to the same project, was deployed to the Black Sea, allegedly to participate in exercises. This ship was almost constantly in the bay of Novorossiysk," the statement said.

Crimean Wind reminded that the Petro Morgunov is the second ship in the series. It was commissioned at the end of 2020.

The ship's total displacement is 6,600 tons. It is capable of transporting a reinforced marine battalion along with equipment and landing it on pontoons that it carries with it.

This large amphibious assault ship also houses an aviation group consisting of two Ka-52 helicopters and an Orlan-10 UAV, which are located in the deck hangar.

"The high-resolution satellite images were published by OSINT researcher MT Anderson," Crimean Wind added.

The researcher noted only the type of ship spotted in Sevastopol Bay.

Earlier, ISW assessed Ukraine's strike campaign in the temporarily occupied Crimea. Analysts noted that Ukrainian missiles and drones successfully penetrate Russian air defense on the peninsula.

It was also reported that, according to space intelligence, as a result of strikes on Russian military facilities in Crimea on January 4, the occupiers lost ammunition depots and were "blinded" by several radars.
