The General Staff is not considering lowering the mobilization age, but is preparing new contracts: what will change

The General Staff of the Armed Forces is not considering lowering the mobilization age in Ukraine and has not taken any such initiatives. Instead, they are preparing motivational contracts for citizens aged 18-25.

It is planned that under these contracts young people will serve for a year in combat brigades. A source in the General Staff of the Armed Forces told OBOZ.UA on November 30.

"They sign the contract, undergo training and military service for a year. After a year, they are dismissed and, again, have the right to a deferment until the age of 25," the source said.

The conclusion of such a contract provides, in addition to payments, a motivational social package. For those liable for military service under the age of 25, it will be larger than usual.

The whole process requires changes in the legal framework. "We have developed proposals, and the Ministry of Defense is working on all this," the source said.

He hopes that the initiative will be implemented soon. The proposals were previously approved by the Defense Ministry.

As previously reported by OBOZ.UA:

– National Security Advisor to the US President Jake Sullivan said that the difficult situation on the battlefield in Ukraine is due to the slow pace of mobilization. Washington believes that Kyiv needs to increase the number of manpower on the front line.

– President Volodymyr Zelenskyy responded to calls from the United States to mobilize more people to the Defense Forces. He emphasized that Ukraine is not fully equipped with proper weapons in the existing brigades.
