The cost starts at $60 million: Defense forces destroy Russian "Kasta" radar in Zaporizhzhia

In the Zaporizhzhia region, military counterintelligence officers of the SSU and the Armed Forces of Ukraine destroyed a Russian "Kasta" long-range radar along with GMLRS missile supply vehicles with a cluster warhead. This station was the "eyes" of the Russian air defense system that controlled Ukrainian airspace.

This was reported by the SSU. A video of the enemy radar being hit was also posted online.

The cost of this 39H6 "Kasta-2E2" long-range detection radar, depending on the configuration, starts at $60 million.

It is therefore not surprising that the occupiers protected it like the apple of their eye - hiding the station in the rear, carefully disguising it, and often redeploying it.

However, as the SSU noted, military counterintelligence officers from the 13th Main Directorate of the Security Service hunt for such rare targets. So this time, they were able to track down the radar and direct fire at it to destroy it.

The targeting was carried out from a Shark UAV. The damage was done with missiles with fragmentation warheads.

As can be seen from the footage, the first strike disabled the radar. The next missile hit a diesel power plant.

The SSU noted that this was made possible by donations from Ukrainians, for which a set of equipment for tracking enemy radars was purchased.

"This set of equipment for reconnaissance and tracking enemy radars (a ground station for UAVs, a minibus, laptops, power, and communication) was purchased by the Come Back Alive Foundation at the expense of volunteer contributions and handed over to the SSU unit that hunts for radars," the SSU said.

In total, since the beginning of the full-scale war, various units of the Security Service have already destroyed 166 Russian air defense systems and 446 electronic warfare, electronic, and radio intelligence systems on the front line.
