The biggest Russian attack on Ukraine's energy sector in recent times: which regions are experiencing power outages

"The enemy has launched the largest attack on the Ukrainian energy sector in recent times. The goal is not just to damage it but to try again, just like last year, to cause a large-scale failure in the country's energy system. Unfortunately, there have been hits and damage to generation facilities, as well as electricity transmission and distribution systems in various regions," the official said.

Halushchenko also said that one of the power lines supplying ZNPP was de-energized as a result of enemy shelling.

The consequences of the terror are already being felt by Ukrainians: there are power outages in a number of regions.

"Power engineers are already working to restore power supply. We are doing everything possible to bring back electricity as soon as possible. The enemy cannot intimidate or break us. We proved it last year, and we will prove it now," the Energy Minister assured.

In particular, emergency outage schedules have been introduced in Kryvyi Rih, Dnipropetrovsk region.

"Hospitals and other infrastructure facilities are switching to generators where possible," Oleksandr Vilkul, chairman of the city's Defense Council, said.

In addition, part of Pavlohrad is without electricity due to damage to power grids.

After the explosions, there is no electricity in a number of neighborhoods in Kropyvnytskyi. In addition, in some settlements, the power supply was cut off in an emergency, the regional power company told Suspilne.

There are also power outages in the Poltava region.

"The enemy has launched the largest attack on the Ukrainian energy sector in recent times. In the Poltava region, preventive shutdowns of substations have been applied and a schedule of emergency shutdowns for all 10 stages has been introduced. The situation is under control. Power engineers are already working to restore power supply," Filip Pronin, head of the Poltava Regional Military Administration, said.

The situation is similar in several districts of the Sumy region.

"As a result of missile attacks on the Ukrainian power grid, emergency shutdown schedules have been temporarily introduced in the settlements of Sumy, Konotop and Shostka districts of the Sumy region. Uninterruptible power points are open to charge phones and other gadgets and use the Internet. Power engineers are working to restore power supply,"the Sumy Regional Military Administration said.

Kharkiv has been without power supply since 5 a.m.

"The occupants have attacked energy facilities 15 times. The city is almost completely without electricity. All emergency services are already working," Oleh Syniehubov, head of the Kharkiv Regional State Administration, said at 05:08.

As a reminder, on the morning of March 22, Russia launched a massive attack on Ukraine: critical infrastructure facilities were hit in a number of cities, leading to power outages.

In particular, the Dnipro hydroelectric power plant was hit: after the attack, traffic across the dam was completely stopped. A Russian missile hit a trolleybus with people on their way to work .

It also became known that ZNPP was  on the verge of blackout due to the Russian attack again. The largest nuclear power plant in Europe is connected to the Ukrainian power grid by a single line that was repaired only last week.
