Stoltenberg: Europe and NATO should be prepared for the war in Ukraine to last for ten years

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg

The Russian-Ukrainian war may last for another ten years. Both Europe and NATO should be prepared for this.

At the same time, the stronger the Western partners support Ukraine and demonstrate that they are ready to do so for a long time, the sooner the war will end. In an interview with the BBC, NATO Secretary Jens Stoltenberg expressed this opinion.

The interviewer asked the North Atlantic Alliance Secretary General whether NATO countries should be prepared for a full-scale war between Russia and Ukraine to last for another ten years, and Stoltenberg answered in the affirmative.

"But the main thing here is that the stronger we support Ukraine and the longer we are ready to support it, the sooner the war can end. The paradox is that President Putin now thinks he can outlast us. That is why the war continues," the NATO Secretary General is convinced.

That is why, in his opinion, the duration of the war directly depends on when the Russian dictator realizes that he is wrong.

"When we make it very clear that we are here for a long time, that we are determined to help Ukraine for a long time, then we create the conditions for a conflict resolution in which Ukraine will win as a sovereign independent state," Stoltenberg added.

Also in the interview, Stoltenberg again called on European NATO countries to increase their allocations to help Ukraine. He did so amid growing fears that if Donald Trump wins the US election, US aid to Ukraine could be severely cut or even stopped altogether.

Earlier, Stoltenberg said when the NATO mission to support Ukraine would start working. He said it will start working in Germany in September this year. The mission will include 700 people.

The Alliance Secretary General also appointed a new NATO representative in Ukraine. OBOZ.UA told what is known about him.
