On the morning of August 14, drones attacked the Savasleyka airbase in the Nizhny Novgorod region of Russia. It is the base for the carriers of the "Kinzhal" missiles used by Russia to bomb Ukraine – MiG-31K aircraft.

At least "10 hits" at the location of the occupiers were reported by Russian media. Residents spotted the UAVs over the settlements of Velytma and Savasleyka.

According to open sources, the nearby airbase is home to a branch of the 4th State Center for Aviation Personnel Training and Military Testing of the Russian Defense Ministry. It is located 12 km northwest of the town of Kulebaki.

The governor of Nizhny Novgorod region, Gleb Nikitin, said that air defense and electronic warfare systems were deployed to suppress the attack.

"The necessary operational and emergency services are working at the scene, and all measures are being taken to minimize the consequences. According to preliminary information, there are no casualties at the moment," a local official said.

RosMedia reported that the roads to Savasleyka and the town of Kulebaki are currently closed.

The well-known propaganda Telegram channel Fighterbomber soon complained that Ukrainians had attacked three Russian airfields in total that night, some of them effectively. He threw a tantrum about the weak air defense network in Russia.

"Unfortunately, but naturally. The problem is the same. The farther the airfield is from the combat contact lines, the more peaceful life is there. And covering a military airfield with one or two 'Pantsyrs', you can only hope for luck. Many people are hoping for it," the propagandist was indignant.

Defence Express reported that the X-47 Kinzhal carriers at Savasleyka were parked in the open air, covered by tires and that only ZU-23-2 anti-aircraft guns and machine guns were used as air defense in the area on the night of August 14.

NASA satellite service recorded a fire in the area of unloading and storage of fuel and lubricants.

The publication noted that the potential destruction of T-6 kerosene stocks is a significant result, as it is used only for these fighters and is not available at every refinery.

MiG-31Ks can use other types of fuel, but in this case, they are not capable of launching "Kinzhals".
