Russian troops face big challenge during overnight fighting in Ukraine – British intelligence

Occupants have to collect money from relatives

The Russian occupation forces have faced a shortage of thermal imagers, which they need for night battles. The occupiers have to raise money from relatives and supporters of the war for such equipment, while the Ukrainian military is often supplied with night vision devices by international partners.

This is stated in the UK military intelligence report released on December 12. The agency noted that Russian troops are likely to continue fighting at night.

Numerous reports from combatants (military personnel involved in combat operations) have emphasized this trend since the beginning of the war, the report said.

For example, in late November, a social media user who identified himself as a Russian soldier fighting in the Kherson region emphasized the lack of night vision goggles and low-light cameras for drones.

"Night vision devices often top the list of equipment that Russian units request from their families and supporters. Ukrainian forces are often equipped with night vision devices from international partners," the British intelligence service said.

They added that there is probably a "cultural element" to the Russian problem.

"Russian military training rarely pays much attention to night training, instead usually building on standard daytime activities to impress visiting senior officers. Conversely, a Russian soldier said that Ukrainian forces "move mostly at night," the report said.

As reported by OBOZ.UA:

– The Armed Forces of Ukraine said that the occupiers began to use more kamikaze drones and aircraft in the Tavriisk direction. There has also been a significant increase in enemy assaults.

– Earlier, Defense Express editor-in-chief Oleh Katkov said that Ukraine produces six units of "Bohdan" self-propelled artillery systems per month. The pace will only increase in the future. Ukraine's 155-mm wheeled artillery system has recently been modernized to speed up the rate of fire.
