Russian attack on Epicenter in Kharkiv kills mother and 12-year-old daughter, father undergoes surgery

Russian strike on Epicenter in Kharkiv kills mother and 12-year-old daughter

A Russian missile attack on the Epicenter hypermarket in Kharkiv on May 25 killed a mother and her twelve-year-old daughter Maria. A 20-year-old girl was looking for her relatives after the attack by the aggressor country.

This was reported by the Parish of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church in Kharkiv on its Facebook page. The head of the family is currently in intensive care, he is perforated.

"Unfortunately, our parishioners Irina and her twelve-year-old daughter Maria were killed during a treacherous Russian strike on 25.05.2024 on the Epicenter construction hypermarket in Kharkiv," the message says.

Earlier, Serhiy Bolvinov, head of the Investigation Department of the Kharkiv Oblast Police, said that the whole family had gone shopping on a day off where two Russian bombs had hit. A 20-year-old girl was looking for her family.

"My 12-year-old sister and mother are no longer answering the phone, and they have not returned home. Their father was with them. Now he is in the hospital with a concussion. This girl returned to the scene late in the evening. She has already given DNA samples. We will search for her relatives, unfortunately, among the dead," he wrote.

As of the evening of May 26, the Kharkiv Prosecutor's Office showed the video from the surveillance cameras in the hypermarket and reported that 44 people were injured and 14 people were killed. Four human body fragments were also found. Seven people are currently missing.

Meanwhile, the National Police showed a video from inside the Epicenter that captured the moment of the hit. "American aid", "the headquarters of the Armed Forces of Ukraine" and other "military targets", which, according to the Russian Defense Ministry, the occupiers hit in a peaceful city, are not visible in the footage.

The West reacted to the terrorist attack on the Epicenter. The United States and Europe pledged to hold Russia accountable for its war crimes. And UN representatives in Ukraine called Russian strikes on civilian infrastructure "absolutely unacceptable."

Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov declared May 27 a day of mourning for the victims - he has already signed a corresponding order, the mayor's office said. As a sign of mourning, the national flag with a black ribbon will be at half-mast on buildings and structures of local government, enterprises, institutions and organizations.
