Russia will not give up its goals: ISW forecasts the course of the war in Ukraine and points out the risks in case of a "freezing" front

Russia will not abandon its goals in the war against Ukraine

The military and political leadership of the terrorist country Russia does not intend to abandon its maximalist goals in the war against Ukraine in the future. The Kremlin has deeply embedded in the Russian political consciousness the ideas that Ukraine allegedly has no independent identity and no grounds for further existence as an independent state.

At the same time, the damage that the current war is inflicting on the Russian army helps to reduce the risks of a repeated resumption of war with the Russian Federation, but this effect is temporary. This is stated in the analysis of the Institute for the Study of War.

Military experts noted that Russian dictator Vladimir Putin has made Ukrainophobic rhetoric part of his 2024 presidential election program. Moreover, Russian officials are incorporating such rhetoric into training programs throughout Russian Federation and in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine.

"Putin is training Russians to commit to subjugating Ukraine, and this training will not stop or disappear once a cease-fire agreement is reached. In fact, it will shape the thoughts and likely policies of Putin's successors for years or decades to come," the analysts said.

In this regard, ISW believes that the challenge facing Ukraine and the West is to be ready to confront Russia, which is still determined to achieve its original goals in the war, once this conflict is over. There will also be the added threat that the Kremlin will want to avenge its failures during this war

Analysts believe that military clashes are possible along the Russian-Ukrainian border in the future, so the Ukrainian military will need to be much larger and better trained in the future. However, this is much less complicated than the problem Ukraine will face if it has to defend its current borders in the event of a "freezing" of the war.

We shall remind you that Russia, after almost two years of full-scale war against Ukraine, continues to clearly state that it is not interested in good-faith negotiations and intends to achieve its maximalist goals.

As reported by OBOZ.UA, in late 2023, a number of officials from the West spread statements that Russia has already lost the war in Ukraine and is unable to achieve its strategic goals. However, Ukrainian officials cautioned that in fact dictator Putin is still as eager to not only hold on to the captured territories, but also to expand the zone of occupation.
