Since the start of the war, 78 employees of the State Emergency Service (SES) have been killed and 280 others injured by Russian shelling while responding to the aftermath of missile strikes. The occupiers are shelling rescuers, ignoring international conventions.

This was stated by Colonel Oleksandr Khorunzhyi, spokesperson for the State Emergency Service, at a briefing on 8 August. "Recently, the Russians have been increasingly using the practice of shelling rescuers during the aftermath of shelling or missile attacks, as well as using the practice of shelling fire and rescue units," he said.

Khorunzhyi added that the occupiers commit such crimes mostly in Kherson, Donetsk and Kharkiv regions.

"In total, 78 SES employees have been killed and 280 wounded since the beginning of Russia's large-scale invasion. I would like to note that rescuers are protected by international conventions because they do not go out to fight, but go to rescue people, clear debris and provide assistance. Russian terrorists are cynically ignoring all the rules of warfare," said the spokesman.

As reported by OBOZREVATEL:

- "On 7 August, Russia attacked Pokrovsk, Donetsk region, hitting a multi-storey building with missiles, and when rescuers were working on the spot, a second strike was made. The shelling of the city killed 7 people, and according to the latest data, 88 people were injured, including 31 police officers, 7 employees of the State Emergency Service and 4 military personnel. Among the dead was the deputy head of the Donetsk Oblast State Emergency Service.

- The first target of the attack on Pokrovsk was to kill civilians, and the second attack was aimed at the services working on the aftermath, the Donetsk regional military administration said.
