Pistorius: Russia remains the biggest threat to Europe

Pistorius spoke about Russia's war against Ukraine

The outcome of the war unleashed by the Russian Federation in Ukraine will determine the future of future generations of Europeans. Putin's Russia will remain the greatest threat to Europe for the foreseeable future.

Therefore, Germany will make every effort to ensure that dictator Vladimir Putin does not achieve the goals of his imperial war. German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius assured of further support for Ukraine. On February 22, in a speech from the rostrum of the Bundestag, he called on the West to jointly confront the threat,Ukrinform reports.

Pistorius said that he had talked to Ukrainian soldiers fighting against the Russian occupiers. The soldiers told the German politician that they had taken up arms so that their children would not have to do the same.

"For Ukraine, this war is about everything... It is about the freedom and security of more than 40 million Ukrainians, about the sovereignty of the state," the German Defense Minister reminded.

The war has been going on in Ukraine for 10 years - only because one "imperialist in Moscow" wanted it so, Pistorius emphasized.

He warned that Putin is targeting not only Ukraine, but all democratic societies. For example, Russian propaganda, disinformation campaigns, and cyberattacks are trying to destabilize the situation in Germany and other Western countries.

"For Putin, it is more than just Ukraine. He is not afraid of the threat from NATO or Ukraine's combat capability. He is afraid that the free democratic world will threaten his power," the minister said.

"The way the world responds to aggression now will affect future generations, including those in Germany. Therefore, everything must be done to counter the threat.

The head of the German defense ministry said that Berlin is transferring a large number of weapons to Kyiv, but at the same time, Germany has done more for its own security over the past two years than in the previous 50.

"It is not only about supporting Ukraine, but also about our security. It costs money," Pistorius stated.

To recap: On February 22, the Bundestag rejected the opposition's proposal to supply Taurus cruise missiles to Ukraine.

A little later, German parliamentarians voted in favor of a coalition recommendation to provide Ukraine with long-range systems for "pinpoint strikes deep in the rear." This resolution does not name any specific weapons.

The final decision on whether to provide missiles to the Ukrainian Defense Forces remains with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.
