Occupants attacked Kharkiv with an X-59 missile: there are victims, some people can be under the rubble. Photo
On the afternoon of March 20, Russian occupants launched a missile attack on Kharkiv: there were hits in the city, and a massive fire broke out at a furniture manufacturing plant. The attack resulted in casualties and injuries.
The attack was confirmed by the head of the Kharkiv Regional Military Administration, Oleh Syniehubov. According to him, people may be trapped under the rubble, and emergency services are working at the scene.
"The occupants have once again attacked one of the districts of Kharkiv. There may be people under the rubble. All relevant services are working on the spot. The information is being clarified," Syniehubov wrote at 13:14.
The head of the Investigation Department of the MDNP in the Kharkiv region, Serhii Bolvinov, said that as of 14:00, at least three people were killed and five wounded in Kharkiv.
He noted that the occupiers attacked around one in the afternoon. In particular, one of the city's enterprises was hit.
"An eight-story building and a production shop in the Kholodnohirskyi district were damaged. The fire covered more than 1000 square meters. It was a regular printing house, a workshop for the production of furniture and paint and varnish products. Among the injured are employees of the company, two of whom are in serious condition. Rescue and firefighting operations are underway," Bolvinov said.
The condition of two of the wounded is assessed by doctors as serious, two more received moderate injuries, and the fifth victim is "light".
Bolvinov also added that the number of victims and injured may increase.
Meanwhile, the State Emergency Service reported that rescuers found the body of one person at the site of the impact.
"Today, around 1 p.m., as a result of an enemy strike on a production building on the territory of one of the city's enterprises, a fire broke out over an area of more than 2,000 square meters. It is also known about 5 victims. There may still be people under the rubble," the SES said.
The Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine also confirmed one death as of 15:44. They reported that the invaders had hit Kharkiv, according to preliminary data, with an X-59 missile.
"All the victims are civilians, employees of the enterprise... Under the procedural supervision of the Novobavarskyi District Prosecutor's Office of Kharkiv, a pre-trial investigation has been launched into the violation of the laws and customs of war, combined with premeditated murder (Part 2 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine)," the statement said.
Rescuers have not yet been able to unblock two more bodies, as Syniehubov said during the telethon.
In total, he said, 10 more people may be trapped under the rubble at the plant.
Emergency rescue and firefighting operations are underway. Psychologists from the State Emergency Service are also working at the scene.
Earlier, Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov reported about the fire and the victims.
"There are victims of today's strike on Kharkiv. Their number and degree of injuries are being clarified. There is a very large fire at the site of the "arrival". All relevant services and volunteers are working at the scene," he wrote.
Later, the mayor clarified that at least five people were injured.
"So far, we know about five victims. Two have already been hospitalized, the rest are being examined by doctors and the issue of referral to a hospital is being decided. However, the search operation continues, as well as firefighting," he said at 14:06.
Terekhov reported that Kharkiv residents heard a powerful explosion at 12:58.
According to the Brigadier General of Justice Serhii Melnyk (alias "Marcel"), a Russian missile hit a building in the Kholodnohirskyi district of Kharkiv.
"The number of possible victims is currently unknown. Terrorists are once again proving to the world that Putin's army is at war with the civilian population," Melnyk wrote at 13:46.
Syniehubov urged residents of the regional center and Kharkiv region to stay in shelters until the air raid warning is lifted.
"The occupiers may strike again," the official warned.
According to monitoring sites, the alert in Kharkiv and the region was announced at 12:14 pm.
"The air alert in Kharkiv, Donetsk, and Zaporizhzhia regions is related to the activity of enemy tactical aircraft," the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine explained shortly after the threat was announced.
