"Nothing more than a provocation before the Peace Summit": Ukrainian Commissioner for Human Rights on Russia's accusations regarding the prisoner exchange

On the evening of Friday, June 14, Russian Human Rights Commissioner Tatyana Moskalkova published a list of 430 Ukrainian servicemen who are "ready to return home in the near future if the Ukrainian side agrees to take them in exchange for Russian servicemen." Her call to facilitate prisoner exchanges surprised Ukrainian Commissioner Dmytro Lubinets.

According to him, on the eve of the same day, communication with the Russian side and the transfer of letters from the prisoners took place, and the Russians did not voice any requests for the return of the military. Lubinets wrote about this on his Telegram channel.

The Commissioner reminded that Ukraine is ready to take back all its defenders, including under the previously proposed "all for all" formula, so Moskalkova's list looks strange. Lubinets added that the Ukrainian side is engaged not in exchanges but in the repatriation of prisoners of war, the mechanism of which is defined by the Geneva Conventions.

"Therefore, I consider such publications by the Russian side on the eve of the Peace Summit to be nothing more than a provocation," the Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights emphasized.

He also said that our country has created mixed medical commissions and is still waiting for the same commissions to be created in Russia.

"I would like to note that during this communication, the Ukrainian side proposed to the Russian side to jointly monitor the physical condition of the returning military during the repatriation process and compliance with the Geneva Conventions. After all, the staff of our office is present during the return of the military of both sides home," Lubinets said.
