No railroad connection with Russia for a long time: AFU destroys the occupants' unfinished bridge near Mariupol

On January 6, the Ukrainian Armed Forces destroyed a half-built railway bridge near the village of Hranitne near Mariupol. As a result of this attack, fuel tanks and engineering vehicles of the invaders also burned down.

This was reported by the advisor to the mayor of the temporarily occupied Ukrainian city Petro Andriushchenko. He posted photos and geolocation data of the damaged facility on his Telegram channel.

According to him, Russian troops tried to shoot down Ukrainian air targets flying over a railroad bridge 30 kilometers from Mariupol. But now the idea of launching a direct railroad from Russia has been dashed for a long time.

"The engineering base itself has performed well as an 'effective' Russian air defense... The Russians can put the rails, along with the echelons from Rostov-on-Don, right up their a**es," he said.

Andriushchenko added that due to a very strong attempt to shoot down the "heavenly punishment", the occupiers revealed their new air defense batteries located in the Mariupol region. Their coordinates have also been passed on to the relevant services.

He thanked the brave men of the Mariupol Resistance and the residents of the Mariupol district who, despite the mortal risk, obtained evidence of an important military and logistics infrastructure facility and provided support until its liquidation.

"Proud to be part of such a great team. Quoting our brave men, 'If only the bridge over which the equipment goes through the village was destroyed, it would be a real blessing.' Well, I think everything is possible If you really want it," Andriushchenko wrote.

It is worth noting that the occupiers announced the construction of a direct Russian railroad connection to Mariupol, Volnovakha, and Donetsk in September 2023. They began building a railway bridge across the Kalmius River near the village of Hranitne.

At the time, Andriushchenko said that, if successful, this construction would allow the occupiers to include the existing Mariupol-Aslanove-Kalchyk-Volnovakha branch into a direct connection with Taganrog and Rostov-on-Don (further west through Rozovka and Melitopol to Crimea, and north to Donetsk). In practice, this would be a global solution to the enemy's military and civilian logistics, and would dramatically reduce its dependence on railroad traffic across the Crimean Bridge.
