New photos and details of the night attack of the Russian Federation on Odesa have appeared: destruction in the city, UOC-MP cathedral damaged

New photos and details of Russian Federation's night attack on Odessa have emerged

A missile attack by Russian troops on Odesa on the night of July 23 was one of the most large-scale attacks on its historical part, taking the life of a civilian. The Savior-Transfiguration Cathedral of the UOC-MP and some of its Orthodox shrines were damaged in the city, as well as many residential and nonresidential buildings and cars were destroyed.

Two dozen people were injured. They were treated on the spot and in hospitals. At the same time rescuers continued to remove the rubble, while the police recorded the consequences of war crimes of the enemy. This was reported by the operational command "South", publishing images of the destruction (to see photos and videos, scroll to the end of the news).

According to the military, during the night missile attack the occupants hit Odesa and the region with at least five types of missiles of all types of basing including Kalibr, Onyx, X-22, Iskander-K and Iskander-M ballistic missiles that flew into residential neighborhoods.

The Sky Defenders shot down a significant portion of these enemy targets, but the remained ones caused damage to port infrastructure, at least six residential and apartment buildings.

Dozens of cars were mangled in the city center, many buildings had their facades and roofs damaged and windows broken. The cathedral of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (Moscow Patriarchate) was damaged by a Russian missile in one of the city's central squares.

Two architectural monuments were also affected. In particular, the House of Scientists, where almost all the ancient stained glass windows were blown out.

Cleric of the Odesa diocese of the UOC, Archdeacon Andriy Palchuk noted that the hit was in the right side of the cathedral, which "penetrated to the ground floor." According to him, the building was heavily damaged and a fire broke out inside.

"The destruction is colossal. Half of the cathedral was left without a roof. The central piles, the foundation have been broken. All the windows and stucco flew out. There was a fire, as the part where icons and candles are sold in the church caught fire. After the end of the air raid alarm, the services and the State Emergency Service came and extinguished everything," he said.

In addition to the cathedral building, Orthodox shrines were affected. The Kasper icon of the Mother of God, which is the patroness of Odesa, was pulled out from under the rubble.

Several craters have formed across the city. There are also some damaged power lines, which may cause traffic to be impeded.

As of 05:25 Sunday, one victim of the Russian missile attack was reported. One person was successfully unblocked from under the rubble by rescuers. Another 19 people were injured, including four children. Eleven adults and three children were taken to hospitals, while the rest are being treated as outpatients.

Odesa RMA said it was the largest-scale RF strike on the city's historic center since the start of the war.

As OBOZREVATEL reported, Russian occupation forces have intensified attacks on the Odesa region in recent days. As a result of Russian terrorist acts, not only people and buildings suffer but also Ukrainian crops, grown under sirens and harvested under shelling.
