NATO members are developing a special operation to clear the Black Sea of mines - Bloomberg
NATO members Turkey, Romania, and Bulgaria are about to sign an agreement to create a joint force to clear their parts of the Black Sea of mines left by the aggressor country Russia. A meeting of the three countries' defense ministries will be held in Ankara on November 22.
Bloomberg writes about this, citing information from three sources familiar with the matter. According to them, the deputy ministers in Ankara aim to finalize the details of the creation of such a demining unit.
According to one of the interlocutors, it is not yet known whether a final agreement will also be signed after this two-day meeting in Turkey.
So far, the ministries of defense of Turkey, Romania and Bulgaria have not commented on this.
The publication noted that this meeting will take place only a few days after Turkish Navy Chief Admiral Ercüment Tatlioglu expresses his objection to the presence of naval assets of other NATO allies, including the United States, in the Black Sea, saying that they could increase tensions in the region.
At the same time, it is noted that if an agreement on the creation of such a demining unit is reached, it will be the first major joint action by the Alliance's allies after Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
