Russian occupiers recently shot unarmed Ukrainian soldiers in the Donetsk region when they tried to surrender. After that, the Defense Forces seized the positions where the execution took place.

All the Russians who were involved in the murder were killed. The head of the Avdiivka Regional Military Administration, Vitalii Barabash, told this on the air of the FREEDOM TV channel.

"They (the Ukrainian soldiers killed by the occupiers - Ed.) surrendered because they were out of ammunition. As far as I know, a little later our guys stormed these positions and everyone who was there was eliminated," Barabash said.

As a reminder, on December 2, a video of the shooting of unarmed Ukrainian defenders by Russian soldiers was posted online. According to preliminary data, it happened near one of the observation posts near the village of Stepove, Pokrovsk district.

The occupiers shot them almost at close range. According to the Geneva Convention, such a massacre of prisoners of war is a war crime.

On December 3, the Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine reported that it had launched a pre-trial investigation in criminal proceedings over violation of the laws and customs of war combined with premeditated murder (Part 2 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

The Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights, Dmytro Lubinets, also responded to the war crime. He initiated an appeal to the International Committee of the Red Cross, whose mandate is to record crimes against prisoners of war.

Colonel Oleksandr Shtupun, spokesman for the joint press center of the Tavdria Defense Forces, added that all evidence of the execution by Russians will be handed over to the relevant international institutions that investigate war crimes.
