Lubinets: Red Cross continues to show the position of an "ostrich"

Russian war criminals are increasingly killing Ukrainian soldiers who surrender. This is documented not only by law enforcement agencies but also by international organizations, but the latter cannot ensure the safety of our prisoners.

In particular, we are talking about the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) - it continues to show the position of an "ostrich". This was stated by the Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights Dmytro Lubinets.

"The organization cannot ensure the protection of the rights of Ukrainian prisoners of war," he said.

Mr. Lubinets emphasized that the ICRC does not fulfill its functions and does not record or condemn the crimes of the Russian Federation either publicly or even in its internal reports.

"It seems to me that if the ICRC continues to take such an ostrich position, all countries of the world will understand why this organization exists if it does not fulfill its direct mandate," the ombudsman said.

He emphasized that Ukraine requires an effective response from the international community, including new arrest warrants for criminals from the International Criminal Court (ICC).

Russian war criminals are increasingly killing Ukrainian soldiers who have surrendered: orders are given by specific commanders of the occupation army. The latest execution, which became known, was recorded last week in the Pokrovsk direction.

And in early September, the Russian occupiers committed another war crime - the enemy shot three Ukrainian prisoners of war in the Toretsk sector. Three soldiers from one of the brigades of the Armed Forces of Ukraine came out of the basement of a house with their hands up when Russian soldiers approached them almost closely. The occupiers laid our soldiers face down on the ground, and then almost immediately shot them in the back.

In total, since November last year, at least 15 murders of unarmed Ukrainian prisoners of war have been reported by Russian invaders, most of them confirmed by drone video and audio intercepts.

As reported by OBOZ.UA, the Institute for War Studies also drew attention to the fact that the Russian occupiers are increasingly executing Ukrainian soldiers who surrender. The invaders' command seems to approve of the spread of such war crimes.
