"Let's not close all the doors": Ohryzko tells what can be expected from Trump's peace plan for Ukraine. Video

The debate over whether European troops will carry out a peacekeeping mission in Ukraine is premature. Also, the possibility of involving US troops should not be completely ruled out, as they are stationed in Europe.

This was stated by former Foreign Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Ohryzko in an interview with OBOZ.Talk. "Let's not close all the doors," he urged, despite the fact that, according to The Wall Street Journal, US President-elect Donald Trump said in Paris that the US army would not participate in the mission.

"The situation may change and the position may also change. As for the European troops, I think this is a bit of a premature discussion. European leaders will gather on December 18-19, including President Zelenskyy, to discuss all these things," the diplomat said.

According to him, it is not necessary to discuss the formats of any potential future military mission but to speak clearly and precisely about the format of security guarantees for Ukraine. The mission can only become possible after the end of Russia's war against Ukraine, or at least its hot phase.

"And how will it end? Therefore, I think that before discussing these things, the leaders of the countries should think about the key issue, the issue of security. Because everything that will happen after that depends on it. And how to ensure this security?" said Ohryzko.

He also noted that the answer to the question of how to force Russia to negotiate lies on the surface. To do this, it is necessary to put dictator Vladimir Putin in such conditions when he simply cannot help but sit down at the negotiating table.

"What does this mean? It means that everything within 500 kilometers of the Ukrainian-Russian border must be destroyed so that the Russian army, which is still in Ukraine, will not be able to fight. This is, in fact, a question that is clear to everyone, except for some of our unfortunately European and American colleagues. For some reason, they believe that the conquest of foreign territory is becoming the norm. Well, if so, then the world will return to the 19th century," the former minister said.

In addition, he noted that in the case of possible negotiations, "the best preconditions" should be created not only for Ukraine, but also for the United States, Britain, France, Germany, NATO, and the European Union.

"This is what the delegation from this democratic side should be, so to speak. On the other hand, Putin could sit down with his friends if he wanted to. That's how the issue should be, not that we promised you once and wrote this, that we are taking away your nuclear weapons and have taken them away. And now you yourself, please, negotiate with the aggressor, who has violated all its obligations and attacked you. Well, I'm sorry, this position is far from not only justice but even decency," Ohryzko said.

As reported by OBOZ.UA, Donald Trump suggests that European countries send troops to Ukraine to protect the front line after the ceasefire. In particular, he made this proposal during a meeting in Paris on December 7.

At the same time, according to sources, the deployment of EU troops in Ukraine to monitor compliance with the ceasefire, primarily France and Britain, should not take place under the auspices of NATO. Trump also does not want to send American troops to Ukraine.

There has also been information that French President Emmanuel Macron is allegedly planning to discuss the possibility of deploying a peacekeeping mission to Ukraine at the EU leaders' summit. The idea may be to deploy peacekeepers on the contact line if a ceasefire agreement is reached between Ukraine and Russia.
