Latvia hands over cars confiscated from drunk drivers to Ukraine

Latvia has donated almost a million euros worth of cars confiscated from drunk drivers to Ukraine. Thus, as of mid-December, Latvia has sent 271 cars to Ukraine this year for a total preliminary cost of 903,453 euros.

This information was published by Delfi, referring to the State Revenue Service of Latvia. Back on February 16 this year, the Latvian Saeima unanimously adopted amendments to the Law on Support of Civilians in Ukraine.

These amendments allowed the government to transfer vehicles that were confiscated in Latvia to Ukraine free of charge as support for Ukrainian society.

This initiative was launched in February 2022. During the project, Ukraine has received 1,100 different vehicles from Latvia, with a total value of about €2 million.

The government is currently preparing to transfer 34 more cars, the total cost of which is estimated at 161,880 euros.
