"If the Oscar is outside of politics, how should we understand the documentary manifesto Navalny?" Zelenskyy's Office reacted to the scandalous ceremony

The Office of the President of Ukraine has responded to this year's Oscars scandal. They wondered if this Academy Award was outside of politics, how could the documentary manifesto "Navalny", where internal Russian politics was overflowing, got there.

Mykhailo Podolyak, adviser to the Head of the Office of President of Ukraine, wrote on it on Twitter. He noted that the organizers of the Award are always talking about humanism, but turn a blind eye to the bloody war in the center of Europe.

"If the Oscar is outside of politics, how should we understand the documentary manifesto Navalny, where internal Russian politics is overflowing? If the Oscar is out of the context of the war in Ukraine and the mass genocide of Ukrainians, why do you constantly talk about humanism and justice?" Podolyak wrote.

This is how he reacted to the fact that for two years in a row, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has not allowed Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to address the world community at the Oscars, arguing that it's so-called apolitical. Nevertheless, the wife of Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny, whose film won the Best Documentary Feature nomination, was allowed to speak.

As a reminder, the ceremony, which took place on the night of March 13, caused a flurry of criticism among Ukrainians. Internet users cannot understand why an "apolitical" Academy gave a platform to "good Russians" who tell how they "fight for democracy". At the same time, the real sacrificial struggle of Ukrainians for the democratic future of the civilized world was completely ignored at the ceremony.

- the only people who reminded the audience of our country at the event were filmmakers from Poland. Actor Mateusz Kościukiewicz and cinematographer Michał Dymek appeared in front of the paparazzi with blue and yellow ribbons;

- the award for Best Feature Documentary was given to "Navalny", a film by Canadian documentary filmmaker Daniel Roher, which tells the story of the poisoning of the Russian oppositionist in 2020, his treatment and return to Russia.
