Russia has indeed launched a counteroffensive in the Kursk region. However, it can be considered "marginal" for now.

Pentagon spokesman General Patrick Ryder said this to American journalists. He added that the US Defense Department is closely monitoring the developments in this Russian region.

The U.S. Department of Defense confirmed the information about Russian counteroffensive actions in the Kursk region, calling them "marginal."

"So, you know, what we have seen is Russian units beginning to try to conduct some type of counteroffensive in the Kursk region. At this stage, I would say that it's, you know, marginal," Ryder said.

He emphasized that the Pentagon is closely monitoring the developments in the Kursk region, where the Ukrainian operation is underway.

As a reminder, on September 11, Russia announced the first large-scale counterattack in the Kursk region, which, according to Russian media, involved paratroopers and marines. Propagandists claim that the aggressor country's troops allegedly recaptured several settlements or 150 square kilometers of territory.

Later, the Russian Defense Ministry announced the alleged liberation of ten settlements in the region. However, the ISW said that the Russians had achieved only minor success and predicted that the Russians would face greater difficulties in further attempts to counterattack in the areas controlled by Ukrainian forces.

The analysts also noted that the presence of Russian forces could be confirmed in only two settlements out of a dozen mentioned by the Russian Defense Ministry.
