On the afternoon of July 12, explosions were heard in the temporarily occupied Mariupol, and Russian air defense systems were also operating. Smoke rose over the city after the explosions.

According to preliminary data, the explosion occurred near the airport, where Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian government Marat Khusnullin and the leader of the DPR terrorist group Denis Pushilin had recently been. This was reported by the Mariupol City Council.

"It's loud in Mariupol! Local publics report air defense activity. According to Mariupol residents, explosions can be heard in Prymorsky district. A column of smoke has risen behind Flotska Street. Sounds of explosions are also reported outside the city," the post reads.

According to the city council, it could have come from the Mariupol airport, at least locals say that explosions were heard in that area.

"Russian Deputy Prime Minister Marat Khusnullin and the leader of the so-called "DPR" Denis Pushilin were reportedly there recently. Occupation sources report 'interception of 5 HIMARS missiles'. But judging by the smoke, the reality is quite different," added the Mariupol City Council.

Later, the Mariupol City Council reported that ambulances and firefighters arrived at the scene.

"Some occupants also wrote about the arrival near the houses. But this is not true. There are no residential buildings near the airport," the statement said.

Meanwhile, the CyberFlour community, having analyzed the images from the network, identified the likely target of the strike.

"In Mariupol, probably a hit on a surface-to-air missile system... The geolocated photos are not listed for the safety of those who took them. We do not know whether the publication was authorized," they said.
