Duda explains why Poland cannot provide Ukraine with Patriot
Polish President Andrzej Duda said that his country cannot provide Ukraine with Patriot anti-aircraft missile systems to protect it from Russian attacks. According to him, the Polish military has just begun to receive these SAMs, although they were ordered 7 years ago.
Duda emphasized that Poland does not have this air defense system in service yet. This is reported by the PAP edition.
The Polish president explained that his country is not able to transfer Patriot air defense systems to Ukraine, as Poland is just beginning to receive the air defense systems ordered several years ago. According to him, the first elements of this system are just beginning to arrive in the country.
"Today, it is difficult to talk about the transfer of Patriot to Ukraine when we do not actually have this system in Poland, built for our own defense needs," Duda said.
At the same time, he reminded that Poland was the first country to provide Ukraine with weapons to deter Russian aggression. He also added that his country continues to support Kyiv in the military sphere.
In addition, Duda commented on the situation on the battlefield and called a new offensive by the Russian army inevitable. According to him, a new wave of Russian attacks on Ukraine will take place in the coming weeks. At the same time, Duda emphasized that Russia should not be allowed to win in Ukraine.
"The Russian offensive is coming, and it will almost certainly take place," Duda said, adding that the offensive is possible in the coming weeks.
As a reminder, during a meeting with U.S. Secretary of State Anthony Blinken in Kyiv, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy emphasized that Ukraine needs more air defense systems to protect its cities. In particular, he noted that two Patriot air defense systems are currently needed to protect Kharkiv region.
Earlier, Danish Prime Minister Matt Frederiksen called on European countries to follow Germany's example and supply Ukraine with more Patriot air defense systems. She emphasized that Ukrainians need 5-6 more systems to protect themselves.
