Death toll in Poltava rises to 53 as a result of Russian attack: 5 people may still be under the rubble

As a result of a missile attack by the Russian occupation forces on Poltava on September 3, 2024, the death toll increased to 53 people. Almost 300 more people were injured.

This was reported by the State Emergency Service of Ukraine . Up to 5 people may still be trapped under the rubble of the building of the Institute of Communications, which was hit by the occupiers.

298 people were injured, 25 of whom were rescued, including 11 people who were unblocked from the rubble. Rescue operations are ongoing, taking into account safety issues.

The attack partially destroyed a six-story building of the educational building and damaged 3 apartment buildings, 5 private houses and an office building.

Earlier, on the morning of September 4, Svitlana Rybalko, a spokeswoman for the Poltava rescue service, told Suspilne onthat the death toll had risen to 52 people, 22 of whom were pulled out of the rubble. 800 tons of construction waste was removed from the site of the shelling.

As a reminder, as of 21:00 on September 3, 271 injured and 51 dead were reported as a result of the Russian missile strike in Poltava. Rescue operations at the Institute of Communications are ongoing, and everyone has been provided with the necessary assistance.

As reported by OBOZ.UA, on September 3, the Russian occupiers hit Poltava with two ballistic missiles. One of the city's educational institutions was hit. There are many dead and injured.

One of the buildings of the Institute of Communications was partially destroyed, Volodymyr Zelensky informed earlier. He expressed his condolences to the families of the victims of the Russian attack.
