Construction is already underway: Rütte announces the opening of the second Rheinmetall military plant in Ukraine

Rutte announces opening of another Rheinmetall plant in Ukraine

The German arms concern Rheinmetall will soon complete its second military enterprise in Ukraine. In total, the German giant intends to build four defense plants in Ukraine.

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte announced the opening of Rheinmetall's second plant in Ukraine. He made the announcement at a joint press conference with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz in Berlin.

"Rheinmetall has just opened its first plant in Ukraine. The construction of the second plant will be completed soon," the NATO Secretary General said.

At the same time, Rutte emphasized that the development of the defense industry is key to the security of Europe and the defense of Ukraine.

Therefore, the German industry is extremely important for NATO and Kyiv, the NATO Secretary General said. Rutte added that Rheinmetall has also significantly increased its ammunition production since 2022.

Rheinmetall AG is one of the largest manufacturers of military equipment and weapons in Europe. The company ranks 29th in the world in terms of sales of military products.

Last year, Rheinmetall established its first joint venture with a Ukrainian partner to service and repair tanks in Ukraine.

In February of this year, it was announced that a memorandum on the production of Rheinmetall ammunition in Ukraine was signed in Munich.

After that, the concern's executive director Armin Papperger said that Rheinmetall plans to set up at least four plants in Ukraine to produce shells, military equipment, gunpowder, and anti-aircraft weapons.

"Ukraine is now an important partner for us. We see a potential of 2-3 billion euros a year here," Papperger said.

Recently, Ukroboronprom Rheinmetall LLC opened an armored vehicle plant in western Ukraine. It has already begun production of Lynx infantry fighting vehicles.

The first combat vehicle is planned to be released by the end of the year, and full local production will be organized "as soon as possible," as confirmed by the German arms company.

In addition, Rheinmetall has received a contract to build an ammunition plant in Ukraine.

As reported by OBOZ.UA, the Kremlin threatened that the military plant of the German concern Rheinmetall, which opened in Ukraine, could become a target for Russian strikes. The German concern stated that it was not afraid of Russia's threats, as its facilities in Ukraine are well protected.
