Consequences of Russian combined overnight attack on Ukraine: damage in Kyiv region and fire at industrial facility in Ternopil. Photo
On the night and morning of Tuesday, August 20, Russia launched a combined attack on Ukraine, using attack drones, ballistic, cruise and unguided missiles. Most of the targets were destroyed, and a fire broke out at an industrial facility in Ternopil as a result of Russian shelling. Local administration advised people not to go outside.
Damage was also reported in the Kyiv region, and no casualties have been reported. The defenders of the skies neutralized a total of 28 air targets except two ballistic missiles and one Shahed drone.
Ternopil region
The explosions in the region took place at night. In the morning, the Ternopil Regional Military Administration said that "the situation that occurred during the air raid alert will be described later." They only mentioned afire and that rescuers and police were working at the scene.
Later, local media began publishing photos of a cloud of thick smoke hanging over Ternopil. Mayor Serhiy Nadal said that residents could smell burning in the air, especially those living in the Druzhba, Kutkivtsi, Pronyatyn, and Nove Svitlo neighborhoods.
The RMA confirmed that Russia had hit an industrial facility in Ternopil. They warned that air quality measurements are being conducted in the Ternopil region and advised residents to close their windows and not to go outside, especially children.
"When planning your day,do not leave the house unnecessarily, limit children's exposure to the street as much as possible, close indoor windows, andwash food brought from the yard thoroughly," the agency said.
The State Emergency Service reported that more than 90 rescuers, 21 units of equipment, and two fire trains were involved in the aftermath of the strike. The fire has been localized. Preliminary, there are no casualties or injuries.
Kyiv region
After the drone attack, at about 05:55, an air alert was announced again due to a missile threat in Kyiv, Chernihiv, Poltava, and Zhytomyr regions.
The head of the Kyiv City RMA, Serhiy Popko, noted that air defense was operating near Kyiv.
20 minutes after the alert went off, it was canceled in the above areas. It was reported that an enemy target had been shot down on the outskirts of the capital.
Both attacks were without consequences for Kyiv. However,in one of the settlements of Kyiv region, private houseswere were damaged by falling debris from the downed targets. In one of the districts, a grass flooring that catched fire was extinguished.
The Kyiv regional police reported that a total of seven residential buildings, an outbuilding and one car were damaged in the region. Fortunately, there is no information about the victims.
"All relevant services continue to work at the scene. We remind citizens that in the event of an air raid alert, they should remain calm, be vigilant and immediately go to the nearest shelters!" the law enforcement officers said.
As reported, on the night of August 20, air raid alert began to spread throughout Ukraine due to Russian drones. The invaders launched several groups of Shahed drones that were moving in the western direction.
