"Budanov was instructed to put the biggest banner towards Crimea": commander on the unknown episodes of the de-occupation of Snake Island

The liberation of Snake Island

The decisive operation to liberate Snake Island in 2022 was divided into several key stages and contained episodes not known to the general public. The commander of the special unit of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine under the pseudonym "Timur" was directly involved in the de-occupation and has now revealed the main ones.

"At the first stage there was artillery preparation, at the second stage aviation was involved. The task was to install the state flag of Ukraine on the helipad. We installed it," he shared. An interview with the Ukrainian defender was published by journalist Ramina Eshakzai on her YouTube channel (to see the video, scroll to the end of the page).

Then, according to Timur, the fighters faced a new task - reconnaissance of the coastal zone and demining of the territory. And with this task the guys from the AFU and GUR handled it perfectly, thanks to which they were able to move on to the final, fourth, stage.

"Then we took full control of the island. The enemy tricolor was lowered, and our flag was raised on the official flagpole," recalls the defender.

The Ukrainian soldier shared his emotions and worries that accompanied him at all stages of the fight for the Snake Island. He assured that members of the Ukrainian Defense Ministry's Main Directorate of Intelligence could overcome their fears at a crucial moment for the service.

"We have caution. We have planning. So neither the command staff nor my brothers who serve with me have a sense of fear," Timur summed up his story.

It should be recalled that last year during the whole of June fierce battles with the invaders were fought around Snake Island. Already on June 30, the commander-in-chief of the AFU, General Zaluzhny, reported that the invaders left the island under pressure from the Defense Forces. The enemy, in turn, called the defeat on Snake Island "a gesture of goodwill."

As reported by OBOZREVATEL, Budanov said that before the liberation of Snake Island, the Russian occupants carried away from there, forgetting not only personal, but also strategically important things and papers. In particular, they abandoned many weapons, military equipment, and valuable documents for military intelligence.

"Many of the rare boards that we are looking for around the world, we were able to take off elements of air defense equipment. We took away control panels of UAV complexes, a lot of communication systems of different types and weapons," recalls the head of the Main Directorate of Intelligence.
