Why does training of Ukrainian pilots and personnel on F-16 take so long: the Air Force answered

The Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine said that the training of Ukrainian pilots on modern American F-16 fighters has been delayed a bit. This is because this process is very complicated, and there are few places in the world to train F-16s.

According to Serhiy Holubtsov, chief of aviation of the Ukrainian Air Force Command, in an interview with Radio Liberty, it is necessary not only to learn how to fly the fighter jets, but also to learn how to use the weapons.

According to him, western-made aircraft are not similar in their weapons guidance procedure to the aircraft that Ukraine has now.

"Therefore, we cannot say that it will be quick. But the fact that this year we will already see the effect and know what else we need to change or not will be shown by the time and actions of our pilots in the air on F-16s," he said.

Golubtsov also raised the language issue in the training of Ukrainian pilots and staff. A lot of time was spent on mastering a sufficient level of English.

He explained that all training, procedures, and documents are written in English, so it is much easier for a person who has mastered the language to understand the material and communicate with instructors.

"The first batch of aviation personnel was trained with interpreters. They mastered absolutely everything related to maintenance technology. After that, we made a decision and sent them for language training. Because the procedure for operating the latest weapons requires knowledge of the software of these aircraft, the forms that are filled out. They will still have to overcome this barrier," he emphasized.

Therefore, the training period has been slightly increased – from 2 and a half to 4 months is spent on training the personnel.

As reported by OBOZ.UA, Ukraine may receive at least a unit of F-16 fighters this year, which may include three to six aircraft. In the future, it is possible to supply more than the number announced today, as the countries that have them in service are gradually rearming with fifth-generation F-35 fighters.
