What is known about the 48N6 ballistic missiles that Russia could have used to hit Kyiv: all the details
On the night of December 13, Russia could have fired 48N6 ballistic anti-aircraft missiles from the S400 system at Ukraine. This is a scarce modification that has a confirmed range of up to 240 kilometers.
The fact that the Kremlin terrorists were using these missiles was reported on Telegram by the head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, Andrii Yermak. He noted that the enemy targeted an infrastructure facility.
Russian sources report that the 48N6 SAM has a direct attack warhead. The missile is larger than the 5V55RM, and the B-203A launcher was developed for it. The 48N6 missile has a maximum range of 150 km, but the control system that existed in 1993 allowed a range of only 93 km.
Back in January 2023, the American analytical institution Jamestown Foundation noted in its publication on the Russian military-industrial complex that in general, the Russian military-industrial complex produces several times more anti-aircraft missiles per year than cruise missiles.
We are talking about about 2000 anti-aircraft missiles for air defense systems of all types. For comparison, the American defense industry produces up to 600-650 anti-aircraft missiles of all types per year. This probably explains the launch of missiles of this type at the Ukrainian capital as they decided that there were a lot of them.
As reported by OBOZ.UA:
- The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that the Russians fired 10 ballistic missiles at the capital, including S-400 anti-aircraft guided missiles and Iskander cruise missiles. The Ukrainian air defense forces destroyed all the missiles.
- As a result of the Russian attack on Kyiv, apartment buildings and private houses, infrastructure facilities, including a kindergarten, were damaged, fires broke out, and more than 50 people, including children, were injured.
