"What are you in a hurry for?" Portnikov urged Zelensky to wait and show his victory plan only to the next US president. Video.

The United States is Ukraine's most influential partner in the war against Russia. Therefore, it is clear that any strategy of Ukraine depends on the position of the United States, which in turn depends on the person who will occupy the Oval Office after the presidential election.

That is why analyst, publicist, writer, and member of PEN Ukraine Vitaliy Portnikov called on President Volodymyr Zelensky to wait until after the election to show a plan for victory, he said on OBOZ.UA.

"There is not much time to wait. In such a war, which continues and will continue for years (even if at some point a high-intensity war ends, for which there are no real prerequisites yet), six months is not the time. We just need to prepare for the results of the US elections, wait until November, and not be nervous," he said.

According to his impressions, "there is a lot of nervousness in Ukraine at the highest level" about the US elections, and it is because of this nervousness that President Zelensky wants to show his victory plan to President Biden, Vice President Harris, and former President Trump.

"It's already September, wait 55 days with this plan and show it to the winners. What's your hurry? Nothing will change radically in 55 days anyway," Portnikov urged Zelensky.

The future actions of the United States are already evident. If Vice President Harris wins the election, she will continue Biden's policy of helping Ukraine. Trump, as president, will persuade the parties to negotiate. But to do so, he must first find a way to approach the Russian dictator.

"I believe that Trump will not succeed, because Putin is not going to end the war in any way that would be favorable for the United States. Trump is out of luck with the country he can lead. If he were to lead some other country, say, Venezuela, he would have a cordial dialog with Putin. But if he wins the election, he will have to lead a country that is an enemy of Russia," Portnikov said.

He emphasized that the current Russian power machine will fight the United States in any case, no matter who leads the United States.

"So, of course, there will be no real agreement between Putin and Trump on ending the war in Ukraine. What will Trump do next? Will he agree that the United States should just get out of the game and leave Ukraine to its own devices? Or, on the contrary, will he become tougher on Russia to prove to Putin that he is not a man to be disregarded?" the journalist asks.

Portnikov admits that he does not know the answer to this question. Perhaps, he says, Ukraine will have to reorient itself to help from Europe.

"It's important that the West helps us until the last day, until Russia realizes that it has no strength to fight. And it is important that Europeans help if Americans do not," he said.

As OBOZ.UA previouslyreported, President Zelensky said that Ukraine would prepare a detailed plan to end the war by the second Peace Summit. The head of state said that representatives of Russia must be present at this summit, because without it it is "very difficult" to diplomatically end the hostilities.
