On August 24, Ukraine's Independence Day, Ukrainian soldiers who were returned from Russian captivity sang the national anthem of Ukraine. Among the 115 liberated defenders are soldiers of the National Guard, the Armed Forces, the Navy, and the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine.

A touching video was posted by the Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights Dmytro Lubinets on his official Telegram channel. "115 Ukrainians returned to their homeland on Independence Day!" the ombudsman wrote.

According to him, the Ukrainians released today are defenders who defended Ukraine in different areas: soldiers of the National Guard, the Armed Forces, the Navy, and the State Border Guard Service.

Many of them are in serious health conditions.

A total of 3, 520 Ukrainians have returned home since the start of the full-scale invasion. The 55th exchange of prisoners of war took place today, Lubinets reminded.

In the future, the freed defenders will undergo medical examination and rehabilitation, as well as restoration of documents and bank cards.

"Ukraine is working every day to bring its citizens home. To this end, government agencies are acting in a coordinated manner. We are grateful to the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War and the Joint Center for the Coordination of the Search and Release of Prisoners of War and Illegally Deprived of Liberty as a Result of Aggression against Ukraine under the Security Service of Ukraine for their joint fruitful work," the Ombudsman said.

He also expressed gratitude to the United Arab Emirates for their assistance in the return of our soldiers.

"I am sincerely glad that our citizens returned to their native land on Independence Day. This is a double holiday for them and their families! We will continue to work to ensure that every Ukrainian returns home!" assured Lubinets.

As reported by OBOZ.UA, on August 24, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Ukraine had managed to return 115 more of its Heroes from Russian captivity. In exchange for them, the aggressor country returned the same number of Russian servicemen, mostly conscripts, captured during the offensive in the Kursk region.
