Ukraine to receive four Leopard 2 tanks from Spain next week: details

Spanish Defense Minister Margarita Robles announced the shipment of four Leopard 2A4 tanks to Ukraine

Spain has shipped the last four Leopard 2A4 tanks to Ukraine out of the promised ones. They will be shipped by sea to Poland and are expected to arrive in Ukraine as early as next week.

In addition to the tanks, the Spanish government is handing over ten armored personnel carriers, as well as armored all-terrain vehicles, light trucks, ambulances, a field hospital and large-caliber ammunition. This was reported by Europa Press.

On Tuesday, July 19, Spanish Defense Minister Margarita Robles, after a video conference with the defense ministers of the countries that are members of the Contact Group on Defense of Ukraine ("Rammstein"), announced the shipment of the last four Leopard 2A4 tanks, which this country has committed to transfer to the Ukrainian army. They will be transported by sea to Poland and from there to Ukraine by land. Spain's military aid to Ukraine is expected to arrive in Poland on July 23.

In addition to tanks, Spain has transferred a new batch of light weapons and large-caliber ammunition to Ukraine.

Spanish Defense Minister Margarita Robles announced the shipment to Ukraine of the last four Leopard tanks, as well as a new shipment of light weapons and large-caliber ammunition. Ten armored personnel carriers and several armored all-terrain vehicles, light trucks and ambulances are also on the list. They underwent a major overhaul before being shipped.

Robles noted that the meeting in the Rammstein format "reinforces the idea of unity of allies and partners who have managed to analyze the latest developments in the conflict and agree on mechanisms to effectively meet the critical needs of Ukraine at a crucial time."

The Spanish Defense Minister also added that Ukraine is being handed over a reinforced field hospital with emergency surgery capabilities, necessary post-operative facilities, pharmacy, sterilization, laboratory and two hospitalization modules.

The hospital left Spanish territory on Tuesday, July 19. The day before, on July 18, Ukrainian medical and logistics personnel returned to Ukraine, having undergone two weeks of intensive training in Сараго́са. They are now "capable of deploying, setting up and managing this hospital in the conflict zone."

Robles noted the relevance of the training coordination center in Toledo, where the soldiers are trained, and reaffirmed Spain's commitment to Ukraine in its quest for "full, just and strong peace".

We will remind that earlier it was reported that in April Spain sent  six tanks Leopard 2A to Ukraine, in May it sent four more tanks and a batch of armored personnel carriers M-113.

In early July, the Spanish government announced that Spain would provide Ukraine with a new aid package worth 55 million euros to finance enterprises, as well as provide Ukrainian schools with clean energy systems.

On July 13, Spain announced that it would join the G7 declaration on Ukraine's security guarantees.
