Ukraine may receive more shells from the Czech Republic than expected: what is known

The Czech Republic has signed contracts for the supply, paying approximately 1.8 billion euros with the help of its allies.

Ukraine's army will receive more artillery ammunition and earlier than planned. At the initiative of Czech President Petr Pavel, the country signed contracts for the supply of one million artillery shells, paying approximately 1.8 billion euros.

This was reported by Corriere della Sera. The publication points out that initially it was planned to supply 800 thousand shells by June, but now the date has changed to April 2024.

"500,000 for the most common caliber (155 mm) and another 300,000 for the 122 mm caliber. Eventually, Czech officials found another 200 thousand," the newspaper writes.

According to the author of the article, it is not yet known which industries were contacted, although rumors point to South Korea, Turkey, and possibly South Africa, among others.

The Italian newspaper reminds that a few weeks ago, Czech presidential adviser Tomas Poyar announced that supplies would begin in June, but now it has become known that Ukraine will start receiving ammunition by April.

Among others, the meeting was attended by Germany, France, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, Portugal, Belgium, Poland, and Canada. Not all of these countries were able to announce the amount of their contribution.

As reported by OBOZ.UA, Czech President Petr Pavel assured that his country is trying to deliver the ammunition purchased for Ukraine "as soon as possible." At the same time, Europe is increasing its capacity to produce shells.

As a reminder, the Czech Republic was able to find 800,000 pieces of artillery ammunition for the Ukrainian Defense Forces, in particular, in countries considered to be Russia's allies. Prague used its Cold War contacts to do so.

Earlier it became known that Ukraine's partners had raised the entire amount needed to purchase 800,000 artillery shells. The ammunition to counter the Russian aggressor country will be purchased outside the European Union.
