The Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs has stated that Ankara "without hesitation" supports Ukraine in its fight against Russia's full-scale invasion as a brotherly country. They want the war to end as soon as possible, but only based on respect for the "legitimate and legitimate interests of the Ukrainian people."

This was stated by Basat Ozturk, Director General for International Security of the Turkish Foreign Ministry, at the forum of the Washington-based Atlantic Council Center on "Exploring Cooperation: Turkey and the West in the Black Sea". The diplomat emphasized that Turkey's support is not only due to the issue of Crimean Tatars.

"We consider the entire Ukrainian people to be our sisters and brothers, and that's why I support them with all my heart. That is why we do not want to prolong this war. Of course, this does not mean that Ukraine should give up," the diplomat said.

The representative of the Turkish Foreign Ministry emphasized that the end of the war should be sought in peace talks, but their outcome should be balanced and in line with Kyiv's interests.

"No war lasts forever. In the context of concluding the peace of this war, the legitimate and legitimate interests of the Ukrainian people must also be respected. But we must also understand this. We must have a balanced result of these peace talks," Ozturk said.

Earlier, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan declared his country's unwavering support for Ukraine's territorial integrity, sovereignty, and independence. He also noted that the return of control over Crimea to Ukraine is a requirement of international law. Some observers called the Turkish president's words a "blow" to Russian dictator Putin.

As reported by OBOZ.UA, earlier the media said that Turkey applied for membership in the BRICS a few months ago amid its frustration with the lack of progress in its long-term attempts to join the EU. In this way, Ankara seeks to strengthen its global influence and establish new ties beyond its traditional allies in the West, journalists' sources said.
