Storm Ossetia battalion Chief of Staff Sergey Melnykov was killed in Zaporizhzhia after a successful operation of Defence Intelligence of Ukraine. The soldiers of Kraken Special Unit received information about the route and schedule of the occupant's movement and ambushed him, hitting his car.

The driver was killed along with the occupier. DIU provided details.

"On December 29, 2024, FPV operators and soldiers of DIU's Kraken Regiment involved in active hostilities eliminated the chief of staff of the Storm Ossetia battalion (an assault unit within the 4429th Motor Rifle Regiment of the Russian Armed Forces), Sergey 'Kama' Melnikov, and his driver, on the Vasylivka-Tokmak highway," the statement said.

The DIU said that soldiers of the Department of Active Operations obtained information on the route and schedule of movement of the Russian in the temporarily occupied territory of Zaporizhzhia region. Taking it into account, they developed an ambush for the chief of staff using FPV drones.

"At first, the drone operators scared the driver of the UAZ Patriot car in which Melnikov was traveling. He then abruptly changed the trajectory, making the car fly into a ditch, and then the Ukrainian military hit the windshield with a kamikaze drone. Both occupants were killed," the DIU disclosed the details of the operation.

Earlier, it was reported that Russian lieutenant colonel and battalion commander Maletsky was eliminated in Ukrainian Armed Forces' strike on Lgov in Kursk region.

In total, on December 25, Ukrainian soldiers killed several commanders of the invaders' army. Among them were the deputy commander of the 810th Marine Brigade and the commander of a separate engineer battalion.
