Russians hit two Ukrhydroenergo hydroelectric power plants at night: critical damage sustained

On the night of June 1, Russian troops attacked two Ukrhydroenergo hydroelectric power plants. The shelling caused critical damage to the equipment.

This was reported by the press service of Ukrhydroenergo. "Another extremely difficult night for the Ukrainian energy sector. The enemy fired at energy facilities in five regions of Ukraine, and two hydroelectric power plants were hit," the statement said.

There were also hits to the infrastructure near the stations, Ukrehydroenergo informed.

"Critical damage to equipment. Hydropower engineers are working to eliminate the consequences," the company said.

They also added that since the beginning of the great war, the Kakhovka HP P has been destroyed, and more than 110 missiles have been fired at all Ukrhydroenergo's HPPs and PSPs.

As OBOZ.UA previously reported, Energy Minister Herman Galushchenko said that energy facilities in five regions were hit: Zaporizhzhya, Dnipro, Donetsk, Kirovohrad and Ivano-Frankivsk regions. The consequences are being assessed, and power engineers are working on the cleanup, the minister said.

In particular, two DTEK thermal power plants were hit. Equipment was seriously damaged, the company said.

A power facility in Zaporizhzhia was also hit, and dozens of residential buildings were damaged. The patrol police reported that traffic at the Dnipro hydroelectric power plant was temporarily blocked.

In the Dnipropetrovs'k region, they also reported a hit, four people were injured.

The enemy hit Ivano-Frankivsk region with four missiles, there is damage to critical and civilian infrastructure, and a man was wounded.

In the Lviv region, six Russian cruise missiles hit critical infrastructure at once. There is destruction, four people were injured.

As a reminder, on the night of June 1, the Russian army massively attacked Ukraine with Shaheds and missiles, while Poland was raising its aviation.

At first, the enemy launched kamikaze attack drones, and later it became known that missiles were launched from Tu-95MS and Kalibr aircraft, and a large-scale air alert was announced in Ukraine.

Air defense systems were activated in Kyiv and Vinnytsia regions, and Russian missiles were also spotted in Odesa, Poltava, Dnipro, and western regions.

On the afternoon of June 1, International Children's Day, Russia attacked a private house in Kharkiv region, injuring eight children.

After the night's massive attack, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called on the West to protect the skies over Ukraine. According to him, Moscow's main goal is to legitimize terror, to take advantage of the lack of air defense and the lack of resolve of its partners.
