Russia is looking for mercenaries all over the world: citizens of Nepal, Cuba, Sierra Leone and Somalia captured by the Ukrainian Armed Forces

Most mercenaries are from Nepal, about 15 thousand of them

Russia is running out of mobilization resources, so it is looking for mercenaries around the world, particularly in southern countries with a difficult economic situation. Citizens of Nepal, Cuba, Sierra Leone, and Somalia are currently being held captive in Ukraine.

Petro Yatsenko, a representative of the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War, said this at a press conference on March 15, where some mercenaries from the Global South were presented. According to him, Russia recruits mercenaries in Africa, Nepal, India, Cuba, Serbia, and other Balkan countries.

"For you to understand correctly, one in a thousand is taken prisoner. That is, these people who were taken prisoner by Ukraine were lucky to save their lives and health. And even though they are mercenaries, which means they are international criminals and can be convicted, Ukraine fully respects all their rights," Yatsenko said.

In general, the largest number of mercenaries is from Nepal, with an estimated 15,000. Some countries, such as Cuba, are interested in the participation of citizens in the war. India and Nepal are against recruitment.

The flow of foreigners into the ranks of the Russian army increased after the "end of the Wagner mercenaries" and former prisoners who fought in the ranks of Storm Z and other formations.

One of the prisoners from Cuba said that he was paid 250 thousand rubles (about 105 thousand UAH) per month. Money was his motivation.

Another said he learned about recruitment from a poster, but thought it was a job as a "security guard" and not on the front line. He spent "about four days" at the front and saw that the mercenaries were not trained to fight.

In turn, Vitaliy Matvienko, a spokesperson for I Want to Live, said that more than 270 occupiers have surrendered as part of the project.

As reported by OBOZ.UA, Ukraine has given Russia an ultimatum on the detention of prisoners of war. Now the occupants in captivity may lose the opportunity to call their families because of the Kremlin's thoughtless policy towards Ukrainian prisoners.
