Russia attacked a civilian ship sailing to the port of Izmail: details
Russia on August 13 attacked the Palau-flagged civilian dry cargo ship Sukru Okan in the Black Sea. The vessel was on its way to the Ukrainian port of Izmail.
The occupants opened fire on the dry cargo ship with automatic small arms and used a helicopter. The attack was boasted in the Ministry of Defense of the aggressor state.
The occupants said that the attack took place in the early morning of August 13. At that time, at about 6:40 a.m., the Defense Ministry said, the patrol ship of the Russian Black Sea Fleet Vasily Bykov discovered the Palau-flagged dry cargo ship Sukru Okan, which was on its way to the Ukrainian port of Izmail.
The aggressor state, which decided it had the right to "exercise control over shipping" in the Black Sea, ordered the dry cargo ship to stop for inspection. When the crew ignored the illegal demands, the invaders opened fire on it.
"The captain of the dry cargo ship did not respond to the demand to stop for inspection for transportation of prohibited goods. In order to forcefully stop the vessel, the Russian warship opened warning fire from automatic small arms. In order to inspect the dry cargo ship, a Ka-29 helicopter with a group of Russian servicemen was lifted from the patrol ship Vasily Bykov," the Russian Federation said.
The vessel was forced to stop after the attack.
"According to the results of radio conversations, the vessel stopped the move, the inspection team boarded the dry cargo ship. After completion of the work of the inspection team on board the Sukru Okan the vessel continued to the port of Izmail. The Black Sea Fleet ships continue patrolling in the designated areas," the Russian Defense Ministry boasted of the war crime.
The ship attacked by the occupiers left the Greek port of Chalkida on August 7. On August 14, it was supposed to arrive in Izmail.
The patrol ship Vasily Bykov, which attacked a civilian vessel, has been involved in Russia's armed aggression against Ukraine since February 24, 2022. In particular, together with the sunken flagship of the Russian Black Sea Fleet, the cruiser Moskva, it participated in the attack on the Ukrainian island of Zmeinyi.
On August 4, 2022, Ukrainian soldiers managed to attack this Russian patrol ship. It had 8 Kalibr cruise missiles on board. The next day it was spotted during a call in Sevastopol Bay in occupied Crimea. The starboard side of the Vasily Bykov in the stern area was burned along with the launcher. At 09:30, the ship moored at Kurina pier with the help of tugboats.
We will remind, at the end of July at the network appeared audio with threats of a Russian ship to a civilian vessel in the Black sea. the occupants over the radio demanded that the captain of the ship to answer what exactly transports and under what flag he goes, and also "warned" that the movement to Ukrainian ports by the aggressor state "prohibited", the transportation of any cargo by ships to Ukraine "is considered by the Russian side as a potential transportation of military cargo".
"The country under whose flag the ship is traveling will be considered to be involved in the 'conflict' in Ukraine," the terrorists said.
